A decision made

Warning: Significant swearing below…

I try very hard to consider situations from as many different angles as possible.  I want to be able to see things from other people’s perspectives, in case I’m wrong and I’m about to learn something new, but also to ensure my opinions are fully considered and worked out before I settle on them.

I have wondered about whether we are really justified spending significant amounts of money on building shiny rockets and Rovers when there is poverty and injustice here on Earth.

Then I saw this:

And I decided, fuck that argument.

There are people who make millions of dollars/pounds/euros selling weapons to…EVERYONE…and others who make millions pillaging war-torn countries who can no longer defend themselves, or who are so desperate to recover from being bombed and having their people murdered that any business deal is better than being left in the dirt.  Fuck those warmongers.

I want scientific research, I want space exploration and I want simple solutions to how much cows fart.

None of those things put bullets into people…it’s a pretty low bar, but that’s what I want.

I know one person can’t change that, but one person can say ‘not in my name’ or shout about how wrong it is. A place to start anyway…

Love your blog. I think sometimes unjustifiably expensive vanity projects lift the human spirit, make us feel like part of something bigger than ourselves and feel positive about our civilisation. I imagine building the pyramids cost the average Egyptian dear but afterwards they looked at them and felt immense pride (probably still do). Same with the US landing on the moon. That gave decades of energy and sense of purpose to that country. I was questioning India having a space program while many of its people don’t have clean drinking water but now I think they need ridiculous goals to have the belief and energy to pull themselves up. Oh sorry I forgot to swear. Giant Bums!

Giant Bums indeed…also…why does it have to be either/or? If every nation on Earth could govern without corruption and if every corporation paid their fair share in taxes we’d have clean drinking water and a truly multicultural Moon base by now…
